Typhoon and ChatGPT topped Google’s list of the most searched terms in Taiwan during 2023. The list released Monday also included rankings for the most searched celebrities and travel destinations.
Among the top 10 most searched terms overall were, in order, World Baseball Classic, the NT$6000 stimulus payments (6000全民共享普發現金), iPhone 15, Israel, and “blue-white” (藍白合), which refers to the cooperation between the KMT and TPP political parties, which ultimately failed.
The most searched TV show was the series “Copycat Killer” (模仿犯), while the most searched movie titles included 2023’s “Marry My Dead Body” (關於我和鬼變成家人的那件事) and “Someone or Some Day” (想見你), a 2022 film that serves as a sequel to the series of the same name.
The most searched celebrity names include TV personality Mickey Huang (黃子佼), singer and actor Aaron Yan (炎亞綸), and K-pop group BLACKPINK.
Regarding travel destinations, Taiwanese searched primarily for nearby locations in East Asia, with Okinawa topping the list. Two notable exceptions are Bangkok, Thailand, and the Pacific island nation of Palau, which is also one of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies.
