With the 2024 election fast approaching, at the Central Election Commission on Monday the parties drew lots for which number they will appear as on the ballot. The DPP’s vice presidential candidate Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) arrived first, followed by the Taiwan People's Party presidential candidate Ko Wen-je (柯文哲). Supporters gathered at the entrance chanting slogans as he arrived. Arriving to represent and draw the number for the KMT was Li Li-chen (李利貞), spokesperson for Hou Yu-ih's (侯友宜) campaign office.
Hsiao drew number two, calling out the party's campaign slogan, Ko drew number one, and Li, on behalf of the KMT, drew number three shouting “Vote three for president”.
Outside, Ko took photos with supporters chanting “Choose number one”. However, he said that he doesn’t pay much attention to this kind of thing, saying it's just a number, and that people need a number to put in the ballot box when voting.
Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) stuck the number two badge onto the campaign board.
She says no matter which number she had picked, it was part of God’s plan and she was happy to draw number two, symbolizing victory, and pledged to continue working hard with presidential candidate Lai Ching-te (賴清德) for Taiwan's success. Hsiao says that whether it's safeguarding Taiwan's democracy and peace, creating prosperity, or upholding social justice and sustainability, she believes they can continue to gain the support and approval of the Taiwanese people.
Youth supporters of Hou’s campaign also gathered outside, chanting lively slogans encouraging the people to vote for number three.
