The Defense Ministry announced two Chinese balloons were detected to have crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait in a statement released on Monday.
The balloons were detected on Sunday at 9:03 a.m. and 2:43 p.m. flying 110 nautical miles northwest of Keelung at an altitude of approximately 27,000 feet. Both balloons were monitored to be moving eastward until they “disappeared” at 9:36 a.m. and 4:35 p.m., respectively.
The ministry added that a total of six Chinese military aircraft and two naval vessels were also monitored from Sunday 6 a.m. to Monday 6 a.m. of which one aircraft entered Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone.
The ministry stated that air and naval patrols were deployed together with land-based missile systems to respond to the activities appropriately.
