President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) expressed condolences on Tuesday to the victims of a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that occurred in Gansu Province, northwestern China on Monday night. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, 111 people were reported killed and 236 injured across Gansu and neighboring Qinghai province. Houses, water, electricity, transportation, communications, and other facilities have also been damaged and disrupted.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Olivia Lin (林聿禪) conveyed President Tsai’s concern and extended condolences to the victims and their families on Tuesday. President Tsai has also asked The Straits Exchange Foundation to express Taiwan's readiness to offer assistance.

The Mainland Affairs Council has added that considering severely cold temperatures in the affected region and the urgent need for shelter among victims, Taiwan is willing to extend assistance so that victims' lives can return to normal as soon as possible.
