Similar to the Western New Year, the Lunar New Year marks the welcoming of new and positive beginnings. With the Lunar celebration starting on February 10th, 2024, the presidential office announced on Monday the preparation of specially designed cards to mark not only the new year but also the year of the dragon.
The cards will come both in paper form and e-card format. The colors used depict not only the vibrant colors of the island nation but also the joyful and festive season of the upcoming holiday. In the phrase
“萬物興「龍」”, the Chinese character for dragon takes the place of the usual word 「隆」, a punny wish for prosperity in all areas of life.
Card designer Yen Po-chun (顏伯駿) said that Eastern and Western dragons are a product of one’s imagination an element key to the development of civilization, science and technology, and culture. He added that the card also encourages one to let one’s imagination fly.
The cards will send the Lunar New Year well wishes of President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) to international and local government officials and as well as public opinion leaders.
The President’s and Vice President’s Lunar New Year sentiments can be viewed on their official website at: https://english.president.gov.tw where the option to send the wishes of peace and prosperity to loved ones is also available.
