On Thursday local time, a major shooting case was reported at Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. Taiwan Presidential Office Spokesperson Olivia Lin (林聿禪) stated on Friday that President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) offered her condolences and expressed concern over the incident.
Tsai asked Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) to convey the concerns of the people of Taiwan about this unfortunate event, express condolences for the victims, and wish the injured a speedy recovery.
Czech police stated that a 24-year-old Czech student at Charles University killed 14 people and injured 25 others, making it the most serious large-scale shooting in Czech history.
The government has decided to declare a day of national mourning on 23 December to commemorate the victims. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala says they urge citizens to observe a minute's silence at noon on the day as well as authorities to ring bells throughout the country at noon.
