The Foreign Ministry thanked the U.S. congress for its continued support to enhance Taiwan’s overall defense capabilities and for strengthening Taiwan-U.S. security cooperation in a press release on Sunday.

The statement was in response to the signing of the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by U.S. President Joe Biden last Friday. The bill received strong support from a bipartisan majority in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

The bill calls on the U.S. defense secretary to consult with Taiwanese authorities on several provisions. These include the establishment of a comprehensive training, advising, and institutional capacity building program for the military forces of Taiwan. Cooperation on defensive military cybersecurity activities is also part of the bill.

The Foreign Ministry said that it will continue discussions with the U.S. congress and executive branch not only on the implementation of the bill but also to continue to safeguard the peace and stability in the Taiwan strait and the region.
