Two Chinese balloons crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait on Monday according to the Defense Ministry. The sightings were reported at 9:31 p.m. and 10:40 p.m.
One balloon ventured approximately 55 nautical miles northwest of Chiayi at around 30,000 feet, while the other reached approximately 71 nautical miles northwest of Keelung at around 32,000 feet.
Both balloons headed in a northeasterly direction and disappeared from radar at 11:43 p.m. Monday and 12:43 a.m. Tuesday. According to flight paths, one of the balloons traversed Taiwanese airspace over the Central Mountain Range before heading east out to sea.
The Defense Ministry stated that the military closely monitors and responds to such incidents, utilizing air and naval patrols and land-based missile systems to ensure national security.
