All 379 passengers and crew are safe after a Japan Airlines jet burst into flames on the runway at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday evening.
Japan Airlines flight 516 from Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport was involved in a collision with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft after landing at Haneda Airport on Tuesday according to local public broadcaster NHK.
NHK reported that according to the video captured by the Haneda Airport cameras, a fire broke out just after 6 p.m. local time. The footage showed a raging fire coming out of the window of the airplane.
The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department has confirmed that five of the six coastguard crew members on board the other plane were killed, while the pilot is seriously injured, reported NHK.
The coastguard plane was preparing to fly to Niigata to help with disaster relief following the earthquake in Ishikawa on Monday.
