Free rapid screening tests for COVID-19 will be available at Taoyuan International Airport for passengers entering or leaving the country starting from Wednesday.
Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Spokesperson Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞) said on Tuesday that a second peak of the virus is expected in mid-January and there is potential for another peak after the Lunar New Year.
In response to the increased incidence of the virus, rapid screening tests will be distributed at four points in the pick-up and departure halls of Terminal 1 and 2 of Taoyuan International Airport between 7:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. One box will be available to each person, regardless of age. The plan will be in place from Wednesday until after the Lunar New Year and may be extended depending on the international epidemic situation and domestic conditions.
Airport passengers commented on the policy saying that they think it is very thoughtful and considerate of the Taiwanese government. Others don’t seem too concerned about the virus, saying that the worst time has passed. However, they say that given that the government is distributing rapid tests, they will make use of them and get tested if needed.
