The Foreign Ministry stated on Thursday that Taiwan will donate 60 million Japanese Yen (US$417,000) to aid in rescue and post-disaster reconstruction efforts following the devastating earthquake that struck the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan on Monday.
Health and Welfare Minister Hsueh Jui-yuan (薛瑞元) says that a dedicated relief fund will be opened for public donations from January 5 to January 19. He says individuals can contribute to the relief efforts through the Bank of Taiwan, the Central Bank of Taiwan, postal remittances, and major convenience store chains. Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) says that in moments of crisis, Japan and Taiwan have always been there for each other. He adds that Japan is beloved by the Taiwanese people and emphasizes their mutual willingness to extend a helping hand in times of need, akin to supportive family members.
Japanese Representative to Taiwan Katayama Kazuyuki expressed gratitude for the immediate messages of condolence and support and the warmth and goodwill extended by the Taiwanese people.
