Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) hosted the Somaliland National Electoral Commission Chairman Musa Hassan Yousuf on Thursday. During the meeting, Yousuf expressed a deeper understanding of Taiwan's electoral system and processes, praised Taiwan's election efficiency, and expressed deep impressions of the prompt election result confirmation on polling days.
Wu and Yousuf exchanged views on Taiwan-Somaliland relations, democratic governance, and electoral systems. Wu emphasized the close ties between Taiwan and Somaliland, citing collaborations in public health, agriculture, information and communication technology, and women's empowerment since the establishment of representative offices in 2020.
Highlighting the shared values of democracy, freedom, and the rule of law, Wu reiterated Taiwan's commitment to deepening ties with Somaliland despite external pressures. Yousuf acknowledged Taiwan as one of Somaliland's crucial international partners and expressed gratitude for Taiwan's assistance.
The 8-member Somaliland National Election Commission delegation arrived in Taiwan on Wednesday and will stay for a week, during which they also plan to attend a banquet hosted by Foreign Deputy Minister Remus Li-Kuo Chen (陳立國).
