Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) acknowledged that adjustments need to be made to military and education salaries and pensions this year.
In an interview on Friday, Chen said that due to standard of living increases in Taiwan in the past two years, the relevant ministries and experts will be invited to discuss the increase mechanism and amounts. He explained that there is already a formal adjustment system in place that is activated every four years or when the cumulative consumer price index reaches a plus or minus value of 5%. However, he said that some adjustments need to be made.
Chen said that the government has always worked hard to take care of current and retired military and public education personnel. Since President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) took office, the salaries of military and educators have been raised three times, with a cumulative increase of 11.4%. Pensions have been adjusted twice, with an increase of 5%.
