A special fund aimed for disaster relief following the recent earthquake in Japan’s Noto Peninsula has received over 63,000 donations as of Tuesday night, totaling more than NT$258 million (USD$8.3 million). That’s according to the Ministry of Health and Welfare on Wednesday. The ministry says it was directed by the Cabinet to establish the fund which opened on January 5, and donations can be made through January 19.
Donations can be made via designated channels including the Bank of Taiwan, the Central Bank of Taiwan, Chunghwa Post, and interactive kiosks at major convenience store chains. Donations from outside Taiwan can be made through Mega International Commercial Bank's Overseas Division. The donations are also tax deductible, adding an extra incentive to give.
