Taiwanese defense of democracy admirable: Haitian ambassador

Foreign Deputy Minister Remus Li-Kuo Chen (陳立國) attended a reception celebrating the 220th anniversary of Haiti’s independence on Thursday. The event was hosted by the Haitian embassy in Taiwan and was attended by more than 100 people.

Chen expressed sincere congratulations to the Haitian government and people on behalf of Taiwan. He said that since Haiti became the first independent country in the Caribbean in 1804, the Haitian people have shown indomitable spirit and resilience, overcoming difficulties and continuing to move forward. He added that this year marks the 68th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Haiti. Chen thanked the Haitian government for its support and many years of fruitful cooperation in infrastructure, education, agriculture, public health, and women's empowerment.

In his speech, Haitian Ambassador to Taiwan Roudy Stanley Penn also expressed his appreciation to the Taiwanese government and people for their long-term support of Haiti. He said he deeply admires the determination of the Taiwanese people to defend democracy. Penn emphasized that the two countries share the values ​​of unity, freedom, and cooperation, and he believes that with continued efforts, the friendship between the two countries will further deepen.
