After the orderly completion of Taiwan’s election, the French Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday congratulating Taiwan’s voters and candidates for their participation in the democratic process. The statement also congratulated the winning candidate but did not mention President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) by name.
The French Foreign Ministry also emphasized the importance of preserving peace in the statement and said that they are reaffirming the vital importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. It calls on all parties to respect the status quo and said it hopes for the resumption of a peaceful dialogue between the two sides.
Taiwan held its presidential and legislative elections on Saturday with the Central Election Commission confirming the official vote count at the end of the election day, stating that Lai had accumulated 5,586,019 votes, or 40.05 percent, giving him the win.
