On Tuesday, Taiwan Lottery officially announced the NT$2,000 (US$63) scratch card prizes for the upcoming Lunar New Year and set a new record for the prize amounts and categories.
The prizes feature eight chances for the grand prize of NT$20 million (US$635 thousand) —which has 1 more lucky winner than the previous year. The second prize is NT$2 million (US$63,600) plus a Mercedes-Benz SUV and will be available to 10 winners. The third prize of NT$1 million (US$31,800) was increased by 150, thereby making available a total of 1,000 winners.
In addition to the scratch cards, this year's Lunar New Year includes enhanced prizes for the various domestic lotteries, with a total prize pool of NT$970 million (US$30.8 million), marking a new high for Lunar New Year prizes in nearly seven years.
As part of the spring festivities, Taiwan Lottery's celebrity spokesperson LuLu Huang Lu Zi Yin (黃路梓茵) unveiled the scratch card prizes. LuLu also shared her family's tradition of trying different lottery shops every Lunar New Year.
Taiwan Lottery's General Manager, Hsieh Chih-hung (謝志宏) noted that during the Lunar New Year, many people receive red envelopes and year-end bonuses. Buying lottery tickets has become part of the ritual for celebrating the Spring Festival. Hsieh expressed confidence in the Spring Festival lotto sales, highlighting the enthusiasm of people visiting lotto stations during the festive season.
