The Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that it has determined that the Chinese military will continue to use various means to intimidate Taiwan in the future. It added that regular combat readiness patrols and grey zone tactics will be utilized among other strategies. Nonetheless, the ministry is confident that the situation can be handled and dealt with appropriately through surveillance and detection.
The ministry added that two Chinese military aircraft were detected entering Taiwan’s southwest air defense identification zone (ADIZ). It said that a total of 15 Chinese military aircraft and 3 naval vessels were detected around Taiwan between Monday 6 a.m. and Tuesday 6 a.m.
Since the New Year, Chinese balloons have also been detected around the Taiwan Strait. The ministry responded that the balloons have been drifting towards Taiwan’s airspace due to the seasonal westerly winds but assured the public that they have been keeping track of the situation.
