Seize the last of the good weather, as some regions of Taiwan might experience a cold front in the coming days. With the temperatures dropping, the CWA estimates the possibility of snowfall.

A rare snowfall occurred three years ago at Yangmingshan's Erziping, just 10 kilometers from Taipei city center. The temperatures were between zero and one degree Celsius and humidity reached 87%, meeting the conditions for snow. This Sunday, another cold surge is expected, raising the possibility of witnessing beautiful snowy scenes once again.
Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecaster Kuan Shin-ping (官欣平) explained that a cold front accompanied by low temperatures will create favorable conditions for snow next week. Starting from the night of Jan. 22, snow is likely to fall on mountains over 1000 meters in Yangmingshan National Park, continuing into Jan. 23 in central mountain areas above 2500 meters.
Dr. Lin De-en (林得恩), an expert in atmospheric sciences, pointed out that the probability of snow on Yangmingshan is over 75%. He adds that other northern mountains above 1000 meters, such as Lala Mountain and Taiping Mountain have an even higher chance of experiencing snow due to higher altitudes.
Kuan says that the coldest and most impactful periods will be on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, with temperatures significantly dropping in northern, central-southern, and eastern Taiwan. Northern Taiwan is expected to reach temperatures between 7 to 9 degrees Celsius, even lower in more open areas.
As we brace for the impending cold wave, it's essential to prioritize warmth and be prepared for the chilly conditions.
