With the Lunar New Year holidays just around the corner, airports are gearing up for a significant increase in passengers. The Interior Ministry estimates that Taoyuan Airport will have an average of 120,000 to 130,000 passengers entering and exiting the country every day, reaching more than 80% of pre-pandemic levels.
Interior Minister Lin Yu-Chang (林右昌) inspected immigration and customs facilities at the Taoyuan airport on Monday. Lin said that the National Immigration Agency (NIA) and National Police Agency (NPA) will deploy additional manpower during the holiday period.
The NIA also set up automatic inspection and clearance systems (e-gates) at the Songshan, Taoyuan, and Kaohsiung airports, as well as at Kinmen Shueitou Port to facilitate quicker registration and clearance times. In addition, a family-friendly counter will also be available to meet the needs of families with children under 12 years old or those with mobility impairments.
Lin reminded those intending to travel during the Lunar New Year holiday not to carry lighters, knives, scissors, pepper sprays, or other dangerous items in order to shorten the security check time. Lin also reminds travelers to abide by regulations and not bring any pork-related products back to Taiwan, adding that Taiwan and Japan are currently the only countries in Asia that do not have African swine fever.
