One Lunar New Year custom is to don new clothing to ring in the holiday. Taipei’s Maokong Gondolas have also dressed up for the occasion.

Children and adults alike excitedly board the famous gondolas at Muzha station for a ride up to Maokong. This is a fun activity to do in Taipei at any time of year, though during the Lunar New Year holiday season, the cable cars are sporting a new look.
Taipei Maokong Gondola has joined hands with the popular cartoon Maji Meow and Animal Rescue Team Taiwan to create cute animal-themed cars just in time for the Spring Festival. Many children expressed their joy at how cute the gondolas are, saying they are excited whenever another one pulls into the station.
With the lessening of COVID-19, crowds have returned, with both locals and foreign tourists going to sightsee in the Maokong area.
One parent says that she has brought her whole family to ride the gondolas and was happy to notice their adorable new clothes. Passengers also commented on the sloths and monkeys, equally wholesome mascots serving as animal ambassadors for a worthy cause.
During the Lunar New Year holidays, the number of visitors is expected to exceed 20,000 per day, with lines predicted to lengthen early in the morning not only at the cable car station but also at the nearby Taipei Zoo.
The Maokong Gondolas will be closed on Lunar New Year’s Eve but will otherwise maintain normal operational hours from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm during the holidays for those who want to add a dose of cute to their Lunar New Year.
