The Labor Ministry on Friday reminded workers and employers that the first few days of the Lunar New Year holiday are paid holidays. The ministry adds that if those days fall on days workers normally have off, such as weekends, the worker will still receive a total of four paid days off to be taken at another time.
The ministry said that employees could use this flexibility to arrange a later seven-day holiday with their company. Furthermore, the ministry says the employees who must work during the holiday must be paid overtime for those days.
Additionally, the ministry says that employers who fail to give proper overtime pay to workers for holidays will be fined between NT$20,000 and NT$1 million, and the name of the offending company will be made public. The ministry reminds workers that they can protect their rights and interests by reporting employer violations at their local labor authority.
