The yellow duck sensation has taken over Kaohsiung, with Kaohsiung’s zoo experiencing a surge in visitors.
Shoushan Zoo in Kaohsiung is usually a haven for exotic wildlife enthusiasts, but recently it has embraced the yellow duck trend with various duck-related activities. Little visitors share that they are especially fond of yellow ducks and are looking forward to more themed exhibitions.
Parents have even dressed their little ones as ducklings, creating a heartwarming and cute spectacle. One mother shared that she saw the event information the previous night and rushed there early in the morning to participate. She also said that they can’t wait to go see the iconic 18-meter-tall inflatable giant yellow ducks that have been in Kaohsiung's Love River Bay since last Saturday.
The charismatic presence of the yellow ducks in Kaohsiung has not only captivated the city but has also significantly increased the zoo's tourism numbers. In comparison to Taipei City Zoo, where ticket prices have increased from NT$60 to NT$100 (US$2 to US$3.20), Kaohsiung’s Shoushan Zoo has tickets priced at NT$40 (US$1.30) which has not deterred double the number of visitors.
Shoushan Zoo Director Chuang Hsuan-chih (莊絢智) says that in this time leading up to the Lunar New Year holiday, they are seeing around 5,000 visitors per day, taking advantage of the zoo’s parent-child DIY and educational camp activities.
The undeniable charm of the yellow duck is not only delighting visitors but also driving tourism opportunities in Kaohsiung.
