The Lunar New Year holidays officially start on Thursday and airports are gearing up for a significant increase in passengers. In line with this, Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) visited the Taoyuan International Airport on Tuesday to inspect security clearance measures ahead of the holiday season.

During the inspection, Chen said that the Lunar New Year is the most important festival in Taiwan as this is the time when families get together. Many people who study and work abroad will return to reunite with their families. This year’s holidays will last for seven days. And the passenger volume during this time is also expected to be quite large.

Chen thanked the Transportation Ministry and the Taoyuan International Airport Corp. for their smooth coordination and integration. He added that cross-agency communication also provided insights on passenger volume and allowed for the proper preparation for security check procedures, facilitating shorter clearance times for passengers.

Chen points out he could see the preparations made to strengthen passenger services and improve facilities. Chen also handed out fruit gift boxes and lucky new year bags to the personnel of the aviation police, the immigration agency among other agencies to express his gratitude for their efforts and hard work.
