Taiwan has 19 unfinished arms deals from the U.S. totaling US$22 billion. That’s according to a report by the U.S. Foreign Military Sales Technical, Industrial, and Governmental Engagement for Readiness (TIGER) Task Force convened by the House Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) and Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA).
The report admits that the current operation mode of the arms sales team cannot cope with the challenges brought by the most dangerous national security environment since World War II. The report also states that some deliveries to Taiwan may be delayed until at least 2027, and some are even without set delivery dates.
The report further indicates that many delayed sales may affect U.S. national security. U.S. Representative Seth Moulton says it is in the best interest of the U.S. to reform the military sales process and the task force has outlined a roadmap for Congress to do so.
