The third carriage of Taiwan Railway's Pingxi Line train No. 4816 derailed at 10:50 a.m. on Monday between Lingjiao and Jing Tong Stations. None of the approximately 250 passengers were injured and all were transported back to Shifen Station. Transportation between Shifen and Jingtong has been arranged so travelers will not experience any delays.
The Taiwan Railway Corporation stated that the second axle of the third carriage came off the track but without major train or railway damage. The train malfunction is expected to be quickly handled by emergency repair vehicles. An investigation into the incident has already been launched.
