The 35th edition of the Taiwan Lantern Festival is being held in Tainan this year as the city is set to celebrate its 400th anniversary. More than 400 thousand visitors flocked to the event in a single day during the Lunar New Year holiday, prompting the city government to add more transportation services to carry more passengers.
Tainan City Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said on Sunday that the lantern festival features nighttime performances that integrate drones, fireworks and light shows to showcase the profound history of the city. He also emphasized that the show attracted a new record of 400 thousand visitors on Saturday since its unveiling earlier this month. He added that it is expected to see an even higher peak in the coming two days.
According to a press release by the Tainan City Government, its transportation bureau has added additional shuttle bus services to help clear the crowd. Step-entrance buses have also been arranged to accommodate baby strollers and people with disabilities. The bureau encourages visitors to utilize the service and reminds the public to follow the instructions of traffic control officers on their way to and from the event.
