To reduce carbon emissions and stimulate the domestic market, the Economics Ministry has implemented supplementary subsidies for buyers of electric scooters in select cities.
On top of the existing NT$7,000 (US$223) subsidies per electric motorcycle and scooter provided by the ministry, and the NT$2,000 (US$64) subsidies for scrapping old gas-fueled scooters from the Environmental Ministry, the government aims to further incentivize the electric scooter market. Buyers in five cities, including Yunlin, Chiayi, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, will now receive an additional NT$4,000 (US$127) per vehicle.
These subsidies are limited to a total of 10,000 vehicles and are projected to contribute to the improvement of air quality in the designated cities. The carbon footprint reduction achieved will be credited to the Bureau of Industrial Parks.
