Senior executives from the controversial short video platform TikTok’s Singapore office brought a team to Taiwan to communicate with officials before the Lunar New Year holiday, according to CNA. It also reported that the Digital Affairs Ministry proposed the use of a tracking mechanism to report and handle illegal activities on the app.

According to the reporting, TikTok's Singapore team met with Digital Affairs Deputy Minister Huai-jen Lee (李懷仁) during the visit and the two sides informally discussed how to handle content in violation of Taiwan’s laws. During this meeting, Lee reportedly requested that TikTok establish a direct communication channel with the Taiwanese government similar to other large global platforms such as Meta, Google, LINE, Twitter, and others.

TikTok had attracted attention in the lead-up to Taiwan's election due to concerns such as its parent company ByteDance being based in China. TikTok stated on its website that it had established a direct reporting channel with the Central Election Commission (CEC). This allowed the CEC to report content that might violate Taiwan's election laws to the company. In such cases, TikTok says it conducts an evaluation of the content and handles such cases in accordance with its internal policies.
