The annual Tainan Yanshui Beehive Fireworks Festival will begin on Saturday with a traditional parade of deities marking the beginning of festivities. A record number of 273 fireworks installations have been applied for the two-day festival and officials will conduct random safety inspections on Wednesday.
During a promotional press conference at Yanshui Wu Miao Temple, Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) emphasized the significance of the festival as a vital folk tradition and an integral part of Tainan's cultural heritage. Huang added that when watching the excitement of the fireworks, tourists should pay attention to their safety and take precautions. He says the city government will also deploy police and firefighters for traffic management and emergency assistance.
Tainan City Government Fire Bureau Commissioner Lee Ming-feng (李明峯) also inspected fireworks installations and conducted emergency response drills. According to the fire bureau as of Monday, inspections had been carried out on 20 firework installations and revealed no violations.
Yanshui Wu Miao Temple also reminds visitors to wear full protective gear and maintain a safe distance of five to 10 meters from firework installations to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience of the festival.
