Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) revealed upcoming measures to enhance Taiwan’s tourism industry during his speech at the 2024 Tourism Festival Awards Ceremony on Thursday. Cheng says that a visa-free sightseeing allowance for transit passengers will be finalized in the near future. He adds that visas for Southeast Asian tourists coming to Taiwan will also be simplified, with a focus on on-arrival visas.

Cheng emphasizes the need to enhance experience quality to ensure that tourists are eager to return, thereby amplifying Taiwan’s reputation as a tourist destination. He says to boost tourism, he hosts promotion meetings every month with the willingness to adopt valuable suggestions from the industry. Additionally, discussions on welcoming Japanese visitors will take place during this year's Taiwan-Japan Tourism Summit Forum.

According to Taoyuan International Airport data, Taiwan hosted 6.25 million transit passengers last year. Cheng also referred to the unchanged cross-strait tourism policy from last year, saying that he hopes for the opening of group tourism to enhance cross-strait travel opportunities by June 1.
