Taiwan and the United States have jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on international development. Representative to the U.S. Alexander Tah-ray Yui (俞大㵢) and American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Managing Director Ingrid Larson signed the agreement in Washington on Thursday.

The MOU will provide a platform for Taiwan and the U.S. to promote private-sector investment opportunities and shared strategic goals. It will also support strengthening cooperation in the fields of health care, women's empowerment, communications, agriculture, climate, energy, small and medium-sized enterprises, and infrastructure.

Yui says that Taiwan’s International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) and the U.S. International Development Financial Corporation (DFC) are committed to promoting development in developing countries. He hopes the MOU will deepen cooperation between the two parties in the field of international development assistance as well as strengthen the participation of both parties’ private sectors.

DFC Chief of Staff Jane Rhee says the DFC looks forward to strengthening its partnership with Taiwan. She adds that this MOU will allow the U.S. and Taiwan to work together to leverage their respective tools, resources, and capabilities to advance private sector-led opportunities globally.
