President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) and Vice President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) received The Heritage Foundation Founder Dr. Edwin J. Feulner, Jr. together with the Foundation President, Kevin D. Roberts, at the Presidential Office on Monday.
In her welcoming remarks, Tsai said Taiwan ranked fourth globally in the Index of Economic Freedom released by the foundation last year. She stated that the result has proven that the Taiwanese government has taken on the right path in promoting industrial upgrades and environmental sustainability in recent years. She added that the government has built a good investment environment and gained global trust and recognition as well.
Tsai continued to say that the collaboration between the U.S. and Taiwan can ensure the security and stability of the global supply chain, and help protect the universal values of freedom, democracy, and human rights shared by many democratic countries. Tsai thanked the foundation for its long-term support for Taiwan-U.S. relations in many ways and its continuous assistance between both sides to have closer collaborations in trade and security.
The Heritage Foundation is a U.S. think tank that releases its Index of Economic Freedom annually, which serves as a reference for governments seeking to improve economic policies.
