The Foreign Ministry expressed its sincere congratulations on Monday to allied country Tuvalu and its newly elected Prime Minister Feleti Teo. Foreign Ministry Deputy Minister Tien Chung-kwang (田中光) will be leading a delegation to visit Tuvalu soon as a special presidential envoy to show Taiwan's support for the new government.

Tuvalu parliamentary member Seve Paeniu said during the election that the new government would review relations with Taiwan. However, Taiwan Ambassador to Tuvalu Andrew Tung-heng Lin (林東亨) refuted rumors that Tuvalu would follow Nauru’s recent change in diplomatic recognition to Beijing, saying that the new government confirms their friendship with Taiwan is rock-solid.

The Foreign Ministry pointed out that the relationship between the two island nations has been stable since the establishment of diplomatic relations 45 years ago. It said that both countries share the universal values of democracy, freedom, respect for human rights, and the rule of law and that it hopes Taiwan and Tuvalu will continue to build on the fruitful results of past cooperation to jointly promote peace, stability, prosperity, and development in the Indo-Pacific region.
