The European Parliament passed resolutions concerning the EU’s 2023 Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) on Wednesday, emphasizing that Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other. They also state that only Taiwan's democratically elected government can represent the people internationally.

The report reiterates Taiwan's importance as a key partner to the EU in the Indo-Pacific, supporting Taiwan's international participation. The document also expresses concerns about China's military intimidation and grey zone activities towards Taiwan, urging China to cease actions that undermine regional stability.

The Foreign Ministry notes that over the past two years, the European Parliament has passed more than 20 resolutions supporting Taiwan and calling for the deepening of cooperation between the EU and Taiwan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) states that the European Parliament has visited Taiwan for three consecutive years, showing concrete support.

Conversely, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić told Chinese media that "Taiwan is China's." The Foreign Ministry replied, reaffirming Taiwan's sovereignty and noting its independence from China. It also highlighted media focus on Hong Kong's Article 23, suggesting a review of pre-1997 Chinese media reports. Contrasting this with Hong Kong's present and future, it points out that Chinese media often distorts facts.
