Estonia-Taiwan Friendship Group chairman Kristo Enn Vaga has led a delegation of eight Estonian parliamentarians to Taiwan. Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) and other representatives received the group on Monday, who will be visiting Taiwan until Friday.
Han welcomed the delegation and thanked Vaga for his many letters supporting Taiwan's participation in the United Nations, the World Health Organization, and Interpol. He also said that Taiwan and Estonia not only share the universal values of freedom and democracy but also aided each other with masks and vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic. Han pointed out that Estonia is a digital power despite its population of only 1.3 million and said he hopes that the two countries can increase digital exchanges in the future as well as various trade and cultural collaboration.
According to a press release by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, the delegation will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡總統) and Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) during their stay in Taiwan. It said they will also visit the defense, digital, health, and economic ministries, along with the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and Hsinchu Science Park, to jointly explore potential areas for future cooperation between Taiwan and Estonia.
