Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi reaffirmed Japan's hopes for a peaceful resolution to the Taiwan issue in a press conference on Tuesday, adding that the Japanese government intends to convey this stance directly to China.

According to a Foreign Ministry press release, Hayashi said that rapid military expansion in the absence of transparency poses the greatest strategic challenge to the rule-based international order in history.

Hayashi reiterated that peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are crucial not only for Japan's security but also for the international community. He added that Japan will continue cooperating closely with allies such as the United States to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The Foreign Ministry welcomed Japan's continued attention to the issue and stated its satisfaction with the ongoing efforts of democratic nations worldwide to prevent the expansion of authoritarianism. The ministry added that Taiwan will demonstrate resilience and self-defense determination in the face of China's hybrid warfare tactics and intimidation and said it will continue cooperating with like-minded countries to uphold peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.
