U.S. Representative Michael McCaul, chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on Wednesday he would attend the presidential inauguration
ceremony of President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) on May 20, according to the AFP.
McCaul shared his plans of visiting Taiwan again during an event in the U.S. Capitol marking the 45th anniversary of the enactment of the Taiwan Relations Act. The Taiwan Relations Act was enacted by the U.S. Congress and it took effect in 1979. Alexander Tah-ray Yui (俞大㵢) of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States attended the event in Washington D.C. on Wednesday among over 40 members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) said on Thursday during a regular press conference that the ministry has not received any further information regarding McCaul’s visit. Liu says the ministry will share with the press and public should they receive further updates.
