In honor of International Women’s Day, President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) took to Facebook on Friday morning to wish every woman a comfortable, confident, and happy life. She also recapped the government’s gender equality efforts and achievements in the past eight years.

The president pointed out Taiwan’s accomplishments of three firsts in Asia including becoming the first to enact marriage equality, operating with a parliament containing the highest proportion of female legislators, and ranking first in the 2023 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Social Institutions and Gender Index (SIGI).

Tsai also explained that the government has worked hard in recent years to promote gender-friendly workplaces, encourage men’s participation in housework and childcare, strengthen women's employment skills, assist female entrepreneurs, and gradually improve the long-term care system to reduce women's pressures in work and life. In addition, the President said that in response to gender equality societal feedback, several reform plans have completed revision and have been officially implemented today.

Tsai emphasized that promoting gender equality is an ongoing mission and that she hopes every woman in Taiwan can soon choose her path without worry and can live easily, freely, and safely.
