Seven Taiwanese films are participating in the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2024 which started last Friday, with a “Taiwan Night” reception held Thursday evening to showcase Taiwan’s enthusiasm and flavor.
Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan Director Wang Shu-fang (王淑芳) said in her speech that Taiwan has produced many rich and exciting films because of its freedom, democracy, and multiculturalism.
The first Taiwan Night held after the pandemic featured appearances by Trouble Girl Director Chin Chia-hua (靳家華), A Journey in Spring Directors Wang Ping-wen (王品文) and Peng Tzu-hui (彭紫惠), Salli Director Chien-Hung Lien (練建宏), The Horse Director Lan I-tzu (藍憶慈), Right Jabs Director Wu Zi-en (吳季恩), and others. Also included in the works selected are BIG, directed by Wei Te-sheng (魏德聖), and The Winter of 1905, a 1982 film in which Edward Yang screenwrote and acted for the first time.
The 2024 Osaka Asian Film Festival began last Friday and will continue through to Sunday, with a total of 63 works from 24 countries and regions participating.
