WATCH: Increased flights to Japan take-off

As airline tickets to Japan prices drop, other adjustments to travel-related costs prove that the low flight fares are just too good to be true.

An extremely popular tourist spot, Dogo Onsen Honkan, is the first public bathhouse in Japan designated as an “Important Cultural Property of Japan”. The Honkan facility is also a famous symbol of one of Japan’s oldest hot springs.

Travelers looking to go to Japan will be happy to know that they now have more options. Given the strong business demand for both passenger and cargo services, additional flight routes will soon be made available.

China Airlines has already started flying to Kumamoto from the start of the year and will add an additional route to Kagoshima in May. EVA Airlines, which just started direct flights to Matsuyama on March 6 in time for the cherry blossom viewing, added two additional flights per week starting March 20 due to the public’s keen interest.

Travel Quality Assurance Association Spokesperson Huang Ching-liang (黃清凉) said that, compared to the same period last year, a ticket is much cheaper, going for as low as NT$4,000-5,000 (US$127-159). However, it’s not all good news.

Unfortunately, due to the exchange rate and inflation, many other travel-related fees have become more expensive. Tickets to many tourist attractions have risen by 10% and hotel room prices have gone up by at least 30%. To adjust for these rising costs, group tours have also had to increase by around 10%.

All these rising prices may get you to rethink whether your Konnichi-wow onsen trip might just be off again.
