In the latest development on the Sudan Red chili powder food safety incident, Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) has ordered the removal of all products containing illegal chili powder within a month. Chen highlighted the urgent need to cut off the source, intensify investigations, and ramp up inspection measures.
Speaking at the Legislature on Tuesday, Premier Chen told reporters that Vice Premier Cheng Wen-tsan (鄭文燦) has been tasked with coordinating efforts across multiple ministries including Health and Welfare, Justice, Education, Environment, and Economic Affairs, to conduct a top-to-bottom review of the Sudan Red chili powder incident.
Chen stressed the importance of holding importing companies accountable through rigorous audits and strict penalties for any violations. Furthermore, Premier Chen highlighted the government's commitment to consumer safety, adding that downstream tracking will be strengthened to swiftly remove tainted products from shelves.
The Justice Ministry has also taken action to conduct investigations into illicit imports. Chen says the government's goal is to remove all products containing illegal chili powder within a month.
