The Taiwan Navy’s Dunmu “Goodwill Fleet” is carrying out domestic sailing training around the island. After leaving from Kaohsiung, the fleet docked in Hualien for a two-day stay on Tuesday, inviting the public to step aboard and witness the three warships up close.
The Navy’s band and honor guard perform synchronized rifle drills, drawing a crowd of eager spectators. Among the onlookers were plenty of students enjoying the display and commenting on the impressive maneuvers.
The fleet is due to dock at seven major ports around Taiwan allowing the public a glimpse of the military equipment on display, from sophisticated missile systems to state-of-the-art armaments.
Hearing from the personnel, naval academy student Su Pai-hao (蘇柏豪) reflected on the lessons learned during his time aboard, saying that logic, debate, and effective communication are just a few of the skills he has gained.
Families even have hands-on experiences trying their hand at rifle shooting, and browsing the numerous stalls, learning about national defense.
Before the ships prepare to depart for friendly countries next month, the public still has a chance to attend more open-day events as the Navy continues to promote national defense.
