Representative Andy Barr, the Republican co-chairman of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, on Tuesday confirmed his presence at Taiwan’s upcoming presidential inauguration.

Congressman Barr attended the Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce of North America (TCCNA) press conference at Capitol Hill that same day. During his speech, Barr not only announced his attendance at President-elect Lai Ching-te’s (賴清德) inauguration ceremony in May but also reiterated solidarity with Taiwan's democracy. Barr further underscored his support for strengthening Taiwan's deterrence capabilities and hoped to continue deepening U.S.-Taiwan economic relations.

Barr together with the Democratic and Republican co-chairs of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus introduced a bipartisan resolution in January. Sponsored by at least 35 representatives, the resolution commended Taiwan for its democratic governance. It states that the U.S. Congress is committed to a strong partnership with Taiwan and supports Taiwan’s self-defense through effective deterrence.
