Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) has said there are no plans for the prices of water and bottled gas to increase before the year’s end as speculation over electricity price hikes has led to worries among legislators about exacerbating inflation.

During the Legislature’s Economics Committee meeting on Wednesday, several opposition party lawmakers directed their attention toward the issue, urging Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花) to commit to a freeze on water and bottled gas prices until the year’s end. Wang says that there are currently no plans to adjust water prices, stating that the ministry will take into account the recommendations put forth by committee members.

Taiwan Water Corporation Chairperson Lee Jia-rong (李嘉榮) also addressed the subject, saying that while the media has expressed interest in the issue, the corporation itself has not proposed any adjustments.

Minister Wang added that there has been no price hike on bottled gas for several years, with the product even being sold at nearly half its cost to small businesses.
