President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) attended the opening ceremony of the 2024 ESG & Sustainability Taiwan International Summit on Monday. The event was organized by Business Today Magazine and featured talks by the Economic Minister Wang Mei-hua (王美花), the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) President Edwin Liu (劉文雄), and the CDP Chief Impact Officer Nicolette Bartlett, discussing topics such as the net-zero economy, industrial innovation, and climate justice.

In her remarks, Tsai stated that the world is facing extreme climate challenges and highlighted Taiwan's achievements in energy transformation since 2016, laying a solid foundation for future net-zero transformations. She emphasized that the government has been advancing Taiwan's Pathway to Net-Zero Emissions by 2050 and also proposed 12 Key Strategies to address upcoming challenges. Additionally, Tsai noted that the Taiwanese government has allocated extra budgets to assist corporations in updating their industrial facilities and human resources to strengthen their global competitiveness after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tsai applauded Taiwanese companies for continuously implementing innovative technologies to reduce carbon emissions and create new business models, proving that environmental protection and economic development can coexist and grow together. She expressed her hope that Taiwan will lead Asia in aligning with the world on the path of ESG implementation.
