The Foreign Ministry strongly refutes Russian President Vladimir Putin’s statement about Taiwan. After his win in the presidential election on Monday, Putin made a statement in support of China’s attempted occupation of Taiwan, saying that he believes Taiwan is part of China.

In response to Putin’s statement, the Foreign Ministry says that Taiwan and China are not subordinate to each other, and the Communist regime has never ruled Taiwan. The ministry adds that Putin’s distortion of Taiwan's sovereign status cannot change the internationally recognized status quo across the strait.

The ministry further points out that under the guise of false democracy, Putin's Russia practices dictatorship in reality. The recent election took place without any opposition or opponents, and elections were forcibly held in occupied territories formerly belonging to Ukraine, highlighting the intolerance of dictatorship and violence.

Putin’s biggest opponent and opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, died in a Russian prison last month, prompting speculation about the cause of death, which authorities have not yet disclosed.
