National Taiwan University (NTU) in collaboration with Academia Sinica held the opening ceremony for Ying-shih Yu International Center for History and the Chinese Humanities (YCHCH) on Friday. The official inauguration ceremony and seminar attracted many domestic and international scholars.
NTU President Wen-Chang Chen (陳文章) thanked Thin Chang Corporation CEO Teng Chual-hsin (鄧傳馨) for the NT$30 million (nearly US$940,000) donation. He said that NTU pledges further collaboration with Academia Sinica to invest more funds in making the university a world center for Sinology research.
In addition, the YCHCH commemorates renowned historian Yu Ying-shih (余英時) who passed away in 2021. Chen stated that Yu was a world-class Sinology master who led trends and nurtured top global students with profound influence, and the new center will aid NTU's development as a Sinology hub. Academia Sinica President James Liao (廖俊智) welcomed the YCHCH, saying that it symbolizes Yu's spirit of freedom and democracy and represents society's humanistic concern. After the inauguration, the center will plan programs to connect talents and promote humanistic research and cultivation.
