Australia has expressed concern over the current cross-strait situation, though Taiwan welcomes continued international attention on Taiwan Strait security. Following Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s (王毅)) recent trip to Australia, U.K. Foreign Secretary David Cameron is now also visiting, drawing attention to the Land Down Under’s role in the Indo-Pacific region and its stance on the Taiwan Strait issue.

At the 7th Australia-China Foreign and Strategic Dialogue, after she met with Wang, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong publicly expressed concerns about escalating tensions. Taiwan's Foreign Ministry has reiterated its welcome for continued international attention on Taiwan Strait security and cooperation with like-minded nations to maintain regional peace and stability.

In an Australian Broadcasting Corporation interview during his Australia visit, Cameron warned that a conflict between the two sides of the strait would be disastrous and trigger a global crisis, stating his opposition to any unilateral changes to the status quo between Taiwan and China.

After Taiwan's January presidential election, Cameron congratulated Taiwan, saying he viewed the election as evidence of Taiwan's vibrant democracy. He also expressed hope for a peaceful resolution of differences across the Taiwan Strait through constructive dialogue without threats or use of force.
