Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry refuted China’s persistent claims of sovereignty over Taiwan based on the One-China principle, emphasizing Taiwan’s independent status. This statement came as a result of the remark made by Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit at the 2024 Boao Forum for Asia, that the Dominican Republic abides firmly by the one-China principle.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jeff Liu (劉永健) reiterated Taiwan’s sovereign status on Friday, stating that Taiwan is not subordinate to the People's Republic of China. The PRC has never ruled Taiwan, which is a well-known fact and objective reality.

Taiwan emphasizes its refusal to yield to political coercion and diplomatic pressures from the authoritarian Chinese government. The nation remains committed to upholding democratic freedoms and values, actively collaborating with like-minded countries and allies to safeguard global and regional democracy, peace, and stability.

Taiwan's Foreign Ministry condemns Beijing citing the "One China" principle as a basis for Taiwan's supposed belonging to China which misleads the international community. Taiwan remains committed to defending its sovereignty and democratic values against external pressures.
